Personal communication devices are defined by Policy 7542. The owner of a personal device bears all responsibility and assumes all risk of theft, loss, or damage to, or misuse or unauthorized use of the device while it is on Board property. This provision applies to everyone, regardless of their affiliation or connection to the District.
Authorized Use
- Staff may connect their personally owned communication devices (PCDs) to the District's network that can be used by staff for work-related purposes.
- Personal devices will not be supported by the district technology department.
- All use must comply with Policy 7540.04 – Staff Technology Acceptable Use and Safety and other relevant District policies.
- District-provided staff logins and passwords including those for Wi-Fi networks must not be shared with students. Passwords are subject to change on a rotating basis.
- Personal devices may not be used to bypass District security measures, such as content filters or firewalls.
Authentication & Security Requirements
- Staff must use District-approved authentication methods to access the network.
- Devices must have up-to-date operating systems and security patches before connecting.
- Use of personal VPNs, proxies, or other anonymity tools on the District network is strictly prohibited.
- Devices must be password-protected to prevent unauthorized access.
Data Protection & Confidentiality
- Staff must not store, transmit, or access confidential student, staff, or District data on personal devices unless explicitly authorized.
- Personally owned devices must not be used to conduct official District business that involves sensitive or private information.
- If a personal device is lost or stolen and contains District data, immediate notification to the LCASD Technology Department is required.
Appropriate Use
- The use of personal devices on the District network must be for educational or professional purposes.
- Staff must not engage in personal activities (e.g., social media, streaming, gaming) that consume excessive network bandwidth or violate District policies.
- Personal devices must not be used to harass, intimidate, or share inappropriate content while on District property or connected to the network.
Liability & Personal Responsibility
- The District is not responsible for any loss, theft, damage, or technical issues affecting personal devices.
- Staff assume full responsibility for ensuring their device’s security and will be held accountable for any misuse.
- Any violation of these guidelines may result in loss of network access, disciplinary action, or termination of employment, depending on the severity.
