Grades are an important measurement of a student’s success at Little Chute High School and represent a student’s progress toward achieving district standards. The purpose of this guideline is to communicate a consistent and fair grading policy that will guide teachers at Little Chute High School in reporting to students and parents and outlining expectations for all learners.
Grades are relative to a particular course and represent student achievement in understanding the designed curricular concepts and district standards. Term and semester grades are permanent records and generate credit. All courses are notated on the student transcript. With the exception of Pass/Fail courses, high school courses taken in middle school, and credits from nonpublic schools, all courses are factored into student GPA. All courses from other schools (including home schools, alternate schools, and schools from other countries) that are accepted for credit will be incorporated into the student’s GPA with the exceptions noted above.
Repeating Courses
The failed semester of a required class must be repeated or students may recover the credit through credit recovery options.
Students may choose to retake a class even if they did not fail the class. However, credit and grade points can only be counted once. If a course is repeated, the highest grade is used in determining the grade point average. The other grade remains a matter of academic record on the student’s transcript. Courses completed through credit recovery options will be awarded a grade and factored into GPA. Students considering repeating a class should discuss the situation thoroughly with their counselor before reprogramming for the class.
Incompletes
When a student receives an “Incomplete” in a specific area, an “I” will be placed on the report card. This is an indication that the student has required work that is not completed due to conditions beyond the control of the student in that subject area. Incomplete grades may be assigned through the recommendation of the teacher and with principal approval. In these cases, the teacher and principal will authorize the length of time necessary for making up the incomplete work. If the student fails to complete the work by the specified date, the incomplete grade will transfer to the grade earned with the missing work factored in.
Additional Information
Students who take courses through the Early College Credit Program (ECCP) will receive 1 credit for every 3 credit course they enroll in and 1.25 credits for every 5 credit course they enroll in.
A student’s grade point average and class rank will be noted on their semester grade reports and transcript.
