Visitors

We welcome visitors to our schools but it is important to know who is in our buildings at all times for the safety of our students and staff.  Little Chute Area School District uses safety technology to manage visitors to our schools. This technology, the Raptor Visitor Management System, is used in conjunction with our existing exterior door buzzers and security cameras.

The system requires a valid ID for all visitors requesting to move about the school building beyond the office during school hours.

Here is how it works:
  • All visitors to our schools report directly to the school’s main office.
  • If a visitor is picking up or dropping off a child, or an item, or needs to speak with an administrator, they do not need a visitor’s badge.
  • The Raptor system will only be used when school is in session. The system will not be used for after-school activities.
  • Every time visitors, including parents, volunteers, contractors, and vendors are requesting to move about the school building, they are asked to present a valid, government-issued ID that is scanned into the Raptor System.
  • Once entry is approved, the system prints a badge that identifies the visitor, the date/time, and the purpose of their visit. Visitors need to return the badge to the school office when they exit the building.
  • ID cards will be scanned with each visit. However, the check-in procedure will be much faster at subsequent visits.
  • No additional visitor data other than visitor name, date of birth, and photo, is gathered nor is the system connected to any other system such as the Department of Motor Vehicles. Copies will not be made of ID cards.
  • If a visitor requesting school access beyond the office does not have a US government-issued ID, the visitor will be referred to the District Office.
The Raptor System:
  • Marks the time of the visitor’s arrival.
  • Compares the visitor’s name, date of birth, and photo with those in a national database of registered sex offenders.
  • Compares the visitor’s name to a prohibited persons list:  No-contact orders, persons who have threatened students or faculty members, persons with restraining orders banning contact with students or staff members, and parents with limited visitation rights of their student.
  • If a visitor is a positive match, a school administrator will meet with the visitor.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why do we need a visitor management system like Raptor?

+
-

Part of keeping our students safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times. The Raptor system allows us to track visitors, contractors and volunteers in our schools, and assist with student checkout. Raptor conducts a limited background check against the national database of registered sex offenders.

Visitors entering a school beyond the office receive a printed ID sticker that must be worn and visible during the entire stay. This makes it easier for our school staff to know who is allowed inside the school.

What forms of ID will the system accept?

+
-

Raptor accepts any state-issued ID, including state-issued driver's licenses and state ID cards.

What if I don’t have a valid form of ID or don't want it scanned?

+
-

If you don't have a state- or government-issued ID, or don't want your ID scanned, you will need to speak directly with our District Office staff. They will ask for your legal name, date of birth, relationship to the student and reason for visiting, and will manually confirm your identification and run a background check.

What type of background check does Raptor run?

+
-

Raptor scans your name, date of birth and a photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders, but it does not check criminal or traffic history.

Will you scan my ID every time I visit?

+
-

Yes, if you are entering the building beyond the school office.

What information does Raptor scan and keep?

+
-

Raptor collects and stores your full name, date of birth, first four digits of your license number and photo when your ID is scanned. It does not keep a digital copy of your ID.

How does Raptor keep my data secure?

+
-

Raptor uses firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, host integrity monitoring and port filtering, as well as the latest security processes to protect all of its systems and data. All information entered into Raptor gets encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption. Raptor does not share data with any third parties.

Are vendors and other regular school visitors who enter the building required to have an ID scanned?

+
-

Yes. Everyone who enters the building beyond the school office will be required to have an ID scanned and wear a printed ID sticker.

What happens if I am a registered sex offender but have a child at the school?

+
-

If your ID scan matches a person in the Raptor system, administrative staff members are notified so they can meet with you privately.

Do other schools and institutions use a system like this?

+
-

Yes. Not only locally, but nationally, other school districts use the Raptor Visitor Management System to enhance school and student safety.
