"I am a parent of four kids with very diverse needs attending Flex Academy.  Before finding Flex Academy, we tried traditional school and homeschooling. Neither seemed to be a good fit for any of the kids.  Flex has been able to offer our family many unique benefits. The at-home/at school blended learning has helped our family find a comfortable balance between time at home learning as a family and time at school learning as a community.  The school culture is one of acceptance and celebrating differences. "As our daughter approached kindergarten, we realized that our views on education weren't quite the norm among our friends and family.  We didn't feel comfortable having our daughter in school all week.  We wanted more time together as a family.  We wanted her to remember growing up with her parents and little brother - not sitting in a classroom all day.  Most importantly, we wanted her to love learning and be able to have more control over how she learns.  We had dreams of homeschooling, but we knew we needed additional support to make that happen for our family.  We looked at various charter schools in the Fox Valley area to see if any of our needs could be met with an existing school.  When we came across Flex Academy, we knew we needed to learn more about it.  As a busy family with both parents working full time (and taking care of a crazy toddler during the day!), we didn't know if Flex Academy could realistically be done.  It's been challenging, but it's also been one of the most rewarding things we've ever done as a family.  We are in our second year now, and we feel that our daughter is thriving in all areas of her education.  The teachers and staff at Flex Academy do an outstanding job of supporting us in this journey."

2nd Grade Student:

I love my teachers! Flex has a lot of friendly kids. It is a great place to learn. 

5th Grade Student:

I wasn’t very excited about going to school. My mom wasn’t going to let me stay home forever. Then…that doomful day… it was the first day of school! I was really anxious, I wasn’t sure what school, at the Flex Academy, was going to be like. A bunch of kids Fortnite dancing? Kids talking super loud in class? I was unsure. When I got into the car I could feel my heart thumping in my chest. When we arrived I could see all the kids walking in through the doors. The second I walked through the doors I got a weird feeling like, This isn’t so bad. When I walked into class, it was quieter than I expected and kind of nice! When I showed off my project, it wasn’t so bad after all! I felt included! We even did some fun stuff, like reading! I’m glad I got accepted into the Flex Academy. My conclusion… school, at Flex, is okay.

7th Grade Student:

My favorite thing about Flex is the K-8 learning. As an older student, I love the opportunities to work with younger kids on different projects.

8th Grade Student:

Some of my favorite things are the whole blended learning (Some work digitally and some on paper), I like how I can work on my own sometimes when I understand the subject and get help from my teacher or Learner Coach when I don't. One other thing I very much like about the flex is that they are open to flexible schedules, can't make it on Monday? That's okay just come in on Tuesday!
