The “Core” classes of high school education have long been identified as language arts, math, science, and social studies. These areas will also be an integral part of LCCPA. There are several concepts that we feel will be distinguishing features of core education at LCCPA.
Relevance
Core education at LCCPA will be integrated through and around our other two pillars: career education and 21st-century skills. To this end, students will enhance their language arts programs with purposeful reading as it relates to these other areas. Science students will see how concepts they are learning in classes can be applied within the Manufacturing and Health Services fields. Social studies students will study current events, historical events, and civic issues as they relate to their chosen cluster, and math students will participate in seminars to see how math concepts are critical within these fields.
Responsibility
When students enter LCCPA, their core education will essentially be teacher-directed. As students proceed through the levels of LCCPA, they will be given the opportunity to make their own choices in how they fulfill their core requirements.
Rigor
Our concept of rigor at LCCPA can be described by the motto “A, B, or do it again!” So, not only will students be expected to complete rigorous coursework, but they will also be expected to do so in a high-quality way.
