One of the main purposes of the LCCPA is to engage students in active career exploration from the moment they enter our doors. The focus of our career exploration will be on the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Technology or Health Sciences career clusters. Each of these clusters encompass a wide variety of career opportunities. Career exploration at LCCPA will fall under three different categories:
Career Research
High school students are expected to become proficient researchers. They need to know how to identify and access appropriate resources to gather information about a given topic. At LCCPA, students will learn how to become high-quality researchers as they learn about Manufacturing or Health Sciences.
Career Coursework
Students at LCCPA will be involved in career related coursework throughout their high school experience. For example, students in Manufacturing may take courses [workshops/seminars/mini-courses] in electricity, hydraulics, design, and engineering, while students in Health Sciences may take courses in anatomy, physiology, medical research, and bio-technology.
Career Partnerships
Students at LCCPA will have the opportunity to explore careers in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Technology and Health Sciences, by taking part in a variety of career exploration visits, job shadows, and internships with our industry partners. This will allow our students to have a “real life” experience with the career opportunities within their chosen cluster. Students will receive the benefit of developing mentoring relationships with professionals who can give them advice on how to pursue the career of their choosing.
