Computer Literacy
Over the course of the year, fifth graders learn more in-depth functions of computers. This includes using Google Workspace applications, Digital Citizenship, and coding. The students also create artifacts that demonstrate the skills taught in class.
English Language Arts
Little Chute Intermediate / Middle School guarantees a coherent, consistent, research-based, and balanced reading curriculum. Students will read with high volume, across genres and formats, in a technology-enhanced workshop model which will incorporate student choice in reading to ensure engagement and joy of reading. The ultimate goal of our curriculum is to develop students’ critical thinking, as they practice literacy skills, to ensure growth as readers in a developmentally appropriate way
Library Media Skills
During LMC classes throughout the school year, fifth graders learn advanced information searching techniques for locating information in the LMC and with on-line sources, including BYOC Public Library. They explore the Dewey Decimal system for library organization. Classes are planned and taught with the classroom teacher and/or the computer lab teacher.
Math
Math Expressions incorporate the best practices of both traditional and reform mathematics curricula. The program strikes a balance between promoting student-generated solution methods and introducing effective research-based methods. Math Expressions fits the learning progressions, the core-grade-level goals, and the dual focus on understanding and fluency of the Common Core State Content Standards.
Music
Over the course of the term in 5th grade general music, students will develop their singing, listening, basic instrument, rhythm, and performance skills as well as study basic musical terms and concepts to prepare them for 6th grade general music class. The use of classroom interdisciplinary units will also be incorporated.
Physical Education
This is an overview of the units of study for grades 5-6. Units of study are low organized recreational games, volleyball, soccer, fitness testing, football, basketball, handball, softball, badminton, pickle ball, golf, cross-country skiing and dance.
Science
In 5th Grade Science, process skills and critical thinking skills are emphasized and integrated throughout the units. Students are given many opportunities to develop these skills. 5th Grade Science has been developed to cover the following topics: Weather, Electricity, Mold and Bacteria sequence of these topics may vary depending upon timing of school year.
Social Studies
In 5th Grade Social Studies process skills and critical thinking skills are emphasized and integrated throughout the units. Students are given many opportunities to develop these skills.
Wellness
Students need to practice healthy behaviors and change unhealthy behavior to healthy ones. During this class students are given opportunities to practice the health skills they will use in their everyday lives in order to become proficient in making decisions that result in developing healthy habits for a lifetime.

This course will give a general overview of the five basic art areas: Drawing, Painting, Printing, Textiles, Ceramics.

6th Grade Band is a large group ensemble designed to provide students with a cooperative, artistic, and highly disciplined outlet for self-expression and personal growth, as well as laying the groundwork for life-long musical appreciation and involvement.

General Music
This is a 9 week class (6th grade students attend music for 45 minutes/day for one quarter). During the 9 weeks, students will explore areas of rhythm and melody, singing, playing, listening, composition, and movement. Emphasis is placed on in-class participation and some written work/projects.
Physical Education
This is an overview of the units of study for grades 5-6. Units of study are low organized recreational games, volleyball, soccer, fitness testing, football, basketball, handball, softball, badminton, pickle ball, golf, cross-country skiing and dance.
Math
Core Connections, Course 1 is the first of a three-year sequence of courses designed to prepare students for a rigorous college preparatory algebra course. On a daily basis, students in Core Connections, Course 1 use problem-solving strategies, questioning, investigating, analyzing critically, gathering and constructing evidence, and communicating rigorous arguments justifying their thinking.
Science
In 6th grade science, process skills and critical thinking skills are emphasized and integrated throughout the units. Students are given many opportunities to develop these skills. 6th grade science has been developed to cover the following topics: Rocks, Ecology, Earth Science, Space Science, and Flight. The sequence of these topics may vary depending upon timing of school year.
Social Studies
This year students will study U.S. history from the Industrial Revolution to the current year. Students will experience history through reading, writing, video, music, art, class discussion, and projects. The purpose of this course is to expose students to historical events in such a way that they see how history affects their future.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Band is a large group ensemble designed to provide students with a cooperative, artistic, and highly disciplined outlet for self-expression and personal growth, as well as laying the groundwork for life-long musical appreciation and involvement. Students will be exposed to classical, pop, jazz, and modern music throughout the course.

Foreign Language
Our goal as a 7th grade Spanish class is that all students will increase theur communication abilities in the target language. We will work together to focus on all modes of communication (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). We will use a variety of methods to introduce basic grammar skills, improve pronunciation in Spanish, build vocabulary, and expand cultural knowledge.
Health/ACP
In the seventh grade health program, students will develop an understanding of nutrition, healthy eating, physical activity, eating disorders, and alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Students will also begin looking at Academic and Career Planning.
Math
Core Connections Course 2 is the second of a three-year sequence of courses designed to prepare students for a rigorous college preparatory algebra course. The big ideas of this course are problem-based lessons, collaborative student work and spaced practice. All are based on methodological research for teaching mathematics that leads to conceptual understanding.
Music
Rockin’ and Strummin’ is designed to give students a hands on musical experience that implements basic general music concepts learned in previous courses. The course will take students on a journey through the capabilities of the ukulele instrument.

Project Lead The Way - Automation & Robotics (PLTW AR)
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a 9-week encore class offered to all 7th grade students that provides a comprehensive approach to STEM Education. Through activity-based, project-based, and problem-based curriculum, PLTW gives students a chance to apply what they know, identify problems, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning. In this course, students will trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students will use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects.
Science
The Amplify Science program engages learners in phenomenon-anchored science and engineering unit storylines as its instructional model. At the 7th grade level, students get an integrated course of Physical Science and Engineering Design topics.
Social Studies
Civics class will focus on the working of the United States Federal Government. The course can best be split up into three major topics; 1. Citizen's rights, duties, and responsibilities as Americans. 2. Documents such as the Constitution, Articles of Confederation and the Declaration of Independence. 3. The three branches of our Federal Government - Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.

Art
This is an elective art class designed to enrich students skills in drawing, acrylic painting, ceramic and 3-D sculpture. Over the course, students will work on a control of line path, shape combinations, texture, color, value, and spatial concepts.

Foreign Language
In this course, our goal will be to acquire Spanish language. When you learned how to speak your first language, you acquired it naturally by listening to other people speak it around you for a long time; not by studying it. We will not be solely memorizing verb charts and vocabulary lists to regurgitate on a test, but actually using Spanish.
Health/ACP
In eighth grade health class, students will develop an understanding for sexual health, including but not limited to sexuality, sexual identity, decision-making, handling pressure, anatomy, puberty, consent, body image, pregnancy prevention and abstinence. Students also will cover violence prevention and injury prevention.
Math
In this course, students will learn to use new models and methods to think about problems as well as solve them. They will be developing powerful mathematical tools and learning new ways of thinking about and investigating situations.
Music
Composin’ and Plunkin’ is designed to give students a hands on musical experience implementing basic general music concepts learned in previous courses. The course will take students on a journey through the piano, exploring the function of the instrument while also experimenting with composition and music reading.

Eighth grade Social Studies is a survey course designed to provide students with an opportunity to examine several areas in the social sciences including, but not limited to, Geography, Political Science, Economics, History, Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology, Current Events and Wisconsin History. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in units designed to provide them with an understanding of the theme "Community and Self"
