Greetings!
I started teaching science at LCHS in 2008, and I can safely say that I've discovered my calling. I absolutely love teaching; it allows me to pursue my interests in the biological sciences while sharing my passion for learning with others. How can any profession be more rewarding, really?
I teach biology, ecology & environmental science, human anatomy & physiology, and food and exercise science. I've always possessed a profound fascination with both biological and environmental sciences, so it only seems fitting that I'm able to explore both of these disciplines with my students on a daily basis.
Beyond teaching, I also serve as the EARTH Club Advisor and the Co-Advisor for the Costa Rica Trip. These roles are particularly rewarding for me because it allows me to share my deepest passion with my students: environmental stewardship. Fortunately for me, I learn just as much from my students as they learn from be about what it truly means to be a conservationist. After my undergraduate work, I completed a Master's of Science in Environmental Education to continue learning how I can most effectively engage my students in making pro-environmental decisions. After all, anyone can talk the talk...I'd like to demonstrate to my students that I also know how to walk the walk.
Outside of teaching and advising, I spend most of my time with my family, which means everything to me. After all, "the most important things in life aren't things." I married the love of my life, Betsy, in 2008 and together we adopted two cats, a rambunctious little pug, and two beautiful boys that have added so much purpose and happiness to our lives.
Additionally, I have many hobbies that consume most of my time. Being a bit of a "fitness enthusiast," I absolutely love to stay active, whether it be by running, hiking...you name it! I'm also an avid camper and outdoorsman. There's just nothing quite like the serenity of breathing in fresh air while hiking through a forest or prairie.
Best Regards,
Mr. Nicholas Rankin
