The Vocal Production Club is a club focused on the professional performing arts that provides more performance opportunities to students. The original component of this club was Mustang Vocal Point, a typically 8-person ensemble that focuses on signing musical theater and vocal jazz. This group is an auditioned group and is composed of the most independent signers in the program as singers are expected to hold parts all on their own, which is different from the school day choir where you may have 15-20 people on the same part.
The second component of the club is the after school event, Live at the 8. Held every third Tuesday of the month, Live at the 8 is an after school open mic open to members of both the school and community to perform for an audience. This event is another opportunity for our students to sing for their peers and practice preparing music on their own. The popularity of the event has skyrocketed, so make sure to sign up early!
Lastly, our newest addition to the Vocal Production Club is our treble ensemble. This ensemble was created to meet the needs for a treble voice only space and another opportunity to sing collegiate-level repertoire. Treble ensemble is similar to Chamber Singers in that they sing in smaller sections and are performing with higher expectations.
In all of these components, students are exposed to new skills that can give them opportunities after high school. Many of the singers are performing very hard music, and often, with little support besides their own abilities. They can transfer the skills gained in these ensembles to potentially gigging after high school. And regarding our Live at the 8 Crew that run the event, these students not only have a chance to sing, but are also learning how to do sound set-up, running a soundboard, MC'ing, and organizing a school-wide event.
