Computer Literacy Teacher Email Phone: 920-788-7610 Welcome to the Computer Lab Home Page. My name is Mary Zoeller and I have been employed by the LCASD since 1991. I have taught 1st and 4th grades and currently am the Computer Literacy Teacher for grades 2nd-6th and 8th grade. I am very excited about the new school year!
I begin my day at the Elementary School teaching 2nd-4th grades and then my afternoon is spent at the Intermediate/Middle School teaching 5th and 6th grade with 8th grade as my final class of the day.
All elementary classes receive an hour of computer skills during a week. 5th, 6th, and 8th grade receive 9 continuous weeks (one term) of computer instruction, 45 minutes each day. We utilize Google Workspace, a free suite of productivity tools including Gmail, Drive, Slides, Forms, Sites, and Docs. It was designed hand-in-hand with teachers to help them save time, keep classes organized, and improve communication with students. All students in grades 2nd-12th have a school Gmail account to be used for school purposes only. Gmail addresses are your child's username@littlechute.k12.wi.us and passwords vary depending on which grade level your child is in. I highly encourage you to periodically check your child's school Google account.
15-30 minutes of each class time at the Elementary School is spent learning proper keyboarding technique. We use a web-based program that students can access from home called, “QWERTY Town". Fifth, sixth, and eighth grade are encouraged to continue practicing keyboarding using any free online keyboarding program outside of class. At this point in time, keyboarding is essential as many projects and assessments are completed online. Additional time spent at home working on proper keyboarding skills would be beneficial! Using the hunt and peck method requires a lot of brainpower. We need our students to be thinking about how to convey their ideas, not wondering where the letter "s' is.
Many of our projects use one of the Google applications. We also work on proper internet navigation, researching skills, coding (programming), computational thinking, and Digital Citizenship using many lessons from the Common Sense Media curriculum (
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/) utilizing Web 2.0 tools, and 3D printing (3rd and 4th grade). I use Google Classroom for grades 3-8 to communicate class expectations and projects we are working on in class.
Because our digital world is ever-changing, so too are the lessons learned on the computer!
