Little Chute schools are learning communities where students express a genuine desire to learn in a welcoming and secure environment. We challenge all learners to become engineers of their own future by nurturing their creative and intellectual growth. We provide the launch pad for students to excel in any field of interest by developing the whole child in a diverse and technical society.

The Professional Development Council facilitates and focuses the organizational growth of the Little Chute Area School District by organizing 4 professional days during the school year. These days are directly linked to organizational initiatives.

Each year staff must complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP) which reflects two organizational goals and two personal goals. Staff is required to annually document growth and evidence in their professional portfolio. Professional portfolios are a requirement during an evaluation cycle to document professional growth over a three year time period. All 4 goals are directly aligned to the Wisconsin State Teaching Standards (WSTS).

2006-2011 Initiatives

The Little Chute Area School District is focusing professional development to improve literacy (Active Literacy model and Six Trait writing model), technology, and high quality curriculum, instructional methods, and assessment development.

 Active Literacy Model

With the help of the CESA 6 Literacy Center, the Little Chute Area School District developed and implemented a K-12 reading reform project to improve student literacy skills. This reform included training staff to teach thinking skills and mental mapping strategies while students interact with text.

This ongoing process includes the development of benchmark assessments, RtI instructional strategies, and continued staff development on the incorporation of additional literary resources.

Technology

The Little Chute Area School District is dedicated to ensuring staff become effective when integrating and utilizing technology in the classroom. The district has established an organizational technology goal for every staff member to help increase their knowledge and comfort level when integrating technology.

Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment

The Little Chute Area School District is committed to facilitating educators in the development, reflection and review of high quality curriculum and assessments. The Professional Development Council strives to provide the support for the development of highly qualified instructional leaders.
