Mission Statement

Family & Consumer Education department courses offer the opportunity for students to learn how to live in today's society and to be more successful in the future. The particular focus of these courses is to prepare students for their role within the family for employment in the world of work.

The knowledge and skills learned in these courses enables students to work through complex situations they may face and to make reasoned judgments and take appropriate action. The Family and Consumer Education Programs have two parts: the home component and the job component.

Fox Valley Technical College offers advanced standing to students who meet academic requirements after completing LCHS' Food Service, Fun with Foods, Fashion and Design, and Health Related Careers. To be eligible for advanced standing, students must enroll in a technical college degree program and present appropriate documentation of the completion of the high school course(s) which meets the conditions stated in the articulation agreement.

Goals

The learner will make reasoned and responsible decisions in order to become a contributing family member, worker, and citizen.

The learner will develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to be contributing members of families and to deal critically and creatively with family related concerns now and in the future.

The learner will take reasoned action through communication, reflection, and the application of principles, methods, and tools.

The learner will make reasoned choices about the use of technology as it impacts family, the workplace, and society.

The learner will recognize the importance of developing worth, dignity, and the potential of each individual in relation to careers, marriage, and parenthood.

The learner will develop the ability to think critically and creatively in making decisions regarding the effective use of personal, family, and community resources.

The learner will recognize the conditions in the family and in society that affect the family's ability to carry out its work.

The learner will develop the abilities to work in a chosen family consumer education related occupation.

Philosophy

Family Consumer Education is the study and application of the interrelatedness of the individual with the family, workplace and society.

The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities for students to prepare for work in the family enterprise and for jobs originating from the family enterprise.

We believe that the family is the fundamental unit of society. Family Consumer Education empowers individuals and families to manage the challenges and opportunities of living and working in a complex society.

It is the intent of this program to encompass and challenge ability levels of all students and encourage them to think, reason, and act responsibly to care for themselves and others. This would include the present and future families, work, and other relationships.

It is imperative that the students in the Little Chute Area School District be offered contemporary Family Consumer Education programs, which span all aspects of life and prepare them to become independent and interdependent members of society.

This comprehensive and specialized curriculum is designed to help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities useful in preparing for gainful employment and living as productive contributing members of a family in a changing society.
