Subject: Science

Grade Level: 8

Science 8 (Life Science focus): Throughout the year in Science 8 the students will participate in many activities, labs, and field trips. I strongly believe that science is only interesting if you take an active approach. Much of the learning time in this course will take place in collaboration, allowing the students to grow as individuals as they learn from each other. The students will be encouraged to question the world around them and to challenge themselves to develop their higher level thinking skills.

Project Lead the Way-Medical Detectives Elective Course: During the 2016-2017 school year, LCIMS launched the Project Lead the Way curriculum (PLTW) at the middle level in grades six through eight. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the elective course-Medical Detectives at the 8th grade level. The PLTW program is a comprehensive STEM curriculum that will provide hands-on opportunities for students in a technology based platform. The students will be medical detectives delving into the world of bioengineering as it applies to the studies of the human body and forensics science.

Teaching is a second career for me. I was a biologist for three years before entering the education field. I became a science teacher because I truly have a love for science and enjoy helping to develop the next generation of scientists. I look forward to working with your student and helping them discover the wonders of science, and the endless possibilities of their scientific discovery process.
